Benefits of Trackless Trams

Trackless trams combine the benefits of trams and buses while offering increased flexibility, efficiency, and reduced infrastructure requirements.  They are electric-powered and may operate autonomously or with an operator operating  on regular roadways without the need for physical tracks.

One of the key advantages of trackless trams is their ability to reduce infrastructure costs. Since they don't require the construction of dedicated tracks, they can operate on existing road networks, making them more cost-effective to implement compared to traditional tram systems. They also have the potential to alleviate traffic congestion in urban areas and provide a sustainable transportation option.

Trackless Trams - Ready to replace Light Rail

Benefits of Trackless Trams over Buses

    Ride quality and comfort

    • Trackless trams are self-guided which leads to superior ride quality due to consistent computer-controlled acceleration, braking and steering. There are also manual controls and the vehicles do not take jobs from drivers.

    • Trackless trams use suspension technology derived from tram and rail bogies which incorporate anti-sway, anti-float and anti-roll features

    Service Efficiency

    • Trackless trams are bi-directional - no need to turn vehicles around at the end of the route

    • Trackless trams have large doors on both sides which are designed to allow large numbers of passengers to board and exit quickly to minimise station dwell times

    • Trackless trams can be configured from two to five carriages

    Accessibility and modal integration

    • Trackless trams provide level boarding which makes it easier for passengers with mobility limitations to use the service

    • Trackless trams have wider isles which, combined with level boarding, make it easy for people to bring their eScooters and eBikes on board.  This lessens the need for park and ride infrastructure at stations.

    • Trackless trams also support new last-mile delivery robots as these robots also need level boarding and wide isles
